Toyota Highlander, the crossover SUV was considered a very good bargain since its launch. It was among the first few crossovers with many features to boast off. It had better mechanics and engine than most of the crossovers. It is a great car to have when you are in an outdoor adventurous mood. This car has Base, SE and Limited trim levels.
Design, features and styling
Highlander has 17 inch aluminum wheels that give a bold impression. The base version has cloth upholstery. The second row have reclines and 40/20/40 split folding seats. The third seat has 50/50 split folding seats. The air conditioner has rear controls too. For entertainment Highlander has six speaker CD stereo with an auxiliary audio jack.The next version SE has a sunroof, roof rails, windshield wiper and de-icer, fog lamps, power tailgate, dual zone automatic climate control, an eight way power driver seat, auto dimming rear view mirror, heated front seats, leather upholstery, a higher quality and improvised music system with satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity and more cargo area.
The next is the Limited trim that has even better features to boast. The wheels grow up to 19 inch here. Puddle lamps, chrome exterior trim, power folding and heating outside mirrors, tri zone climate control, keyless entry, fine leather upholstery, four way power passenger seat and 10 way power driver seat are among other additional features given in this version of Highlander.
Engine and performance
There are two choices for engine in the Highlander. The base model comes equipped with 2.7 litre inline 4 engine that develops 187 horsepower and 186 pound feet of torque. Here you have also been given with a six speed automatic transmission. The fuel economy given out by this engine is 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on highways. The SE and the Limited versions of Highlander come equipped with a 3.5 litre V6 engine that develops 270 horse power and 248 lb ft of torque.
Here a five speed automatic transmission with front wheel drive system has been given. This engine is capable of zooming form 0 to 60 mph in only 7.5 seconds! This engine can tow up to 5000 pounds and gives a city mileage of 18 mpg and highway mileage of 24. For the all wheel drive system the city mileage drops to 17 mpg and highway mileage to 22 mpg.
Safety features include antilock disc brakes, hill start and descent assist, stability control, seven airbags and driver side kneebag. The IIHS have “Good” rating for frontal offset and side impact tests, five stars to driver impact and four stars to front passenger impacts.
